An illegal cigarette manufacturing unit has been uncovered in Spain where by six foreign employees had been identified gasping for air right before remaining rescued, authorities claimed.

Twelve British nationals suspected of working the factory ended up arrested.

The bunker beneath horse stables in the southern province of Malaga could produce up to 3,500 counterfeit cigarettes an hour.

It is the first underground counterfeit cigarette factory uncovered in the EU, Europol and Spanish law enforcement reported.

Six Ukrainian and Lithuanian employees have been found struggling to breathe because of to a generator developed to pump air into the bunker jogging out of electricity, police stated.
